There are some Verbs that usually take a gerund (V+ing) after them. কিছু Verb আছে যাদের পরে Non Finite Verb ব্যবহার হলে অবশ্যই Verb এর সাথে ing যোগ করতে হয় ।

Those Verbs are as follows…
  • Appreciate- He appreciated going with me.
  • Understand – I have understood using the infinitive.
  • Consider- The bank considered granting me the check.
  • Postpone- We postponed walking through the forest.
  • Recall- I recalled meeting her the first day.
  • Recommend- My dad recommends me taking teaching as my profession.
  • Delay- You always delay attending the party.
  • Deny- She denied going with me.
  • Start- The cart starts moving.
  • Begin- She began singing.
  • Stop- I stopped listening to music for a lifetime.
  • Complete- He completed studying.                
  • Finish- He finished working.
  • Quit- He quits taking the bribe.
  • Miss- I always miss visiting my native village.
  • Enjoy – I enjoy playing Cricket.
  • Mind- Would you mind sitting by me?
  • Propose- He proposed me going with her.
  • Suggest- She suggested me forgetting him.
  • Avoid- she always avoids smoking with friends.
  • Keep- The chair keeps moving.
  • Remain- She remains crying aloud.
  • Admit- He admitted stealing the watch.
  • Discuss- They all discussed opening a new shop.
  • Continue- The temperature continues rising.
  • Maintain- He maintains making a balance.
  • Mention- She mentioned taking care of her children.
  • Practice- He practices swimming.
  • Telerate- I cannot tolerate staying there anymore.
  • Cannot help- We cannot help sleeping.
  • Could not help– I could not help slapping her.
  • Acknowledge- He acknowledged committing the crime.
  • Forget- I forgot the days staying in my village.
  • Regret – I regret doing the mistake.

And there are some Verbs that usually take an infinitive after them.অর্থাৎ কিছু Verb আছে যাদের পরে Non-Finite Verb ব্যবহার হলে to + V1 (Infinitive ) ব্যবহার করতে হয়।

They are as follows...
  • Decide- He decided to memorize Quran.
  • Demand- They demand to have a school canteen.
  • Persuade- She persuades me to love her.
  • Instigate- They instigated him to cheat me.
  • Offer- She offered me to have my lunch with her.
  • Refuse- I refused to have lunch with her.
  • Try- I always try to perform my Salah on time.
  • Advise- My parents always advise me to follow the rich path.
  • Threaten- They threaten me to speak the fact.
  • Hesitate- I never hesitate to speak the truth.
  • Forget- I always forget to inform you of the matter.
  • Remind- Mother always reminds me to go to the Masjid.
  • Agree- I did not agree to do that.
  • Consent- He consents to help me.
  • Assent- I assent to stay with him.
  • Concede- We concede to stop the dispute.
  • Accede- I accede to share my bed with my friend.
  • Hope- I hope to succeed in life.
  • Wish- I wish to go to heaven.
  • Want- I want to pass the exam.
  • Expect- I expect to get A+.
  • Intend- He intends to go abroad.
  • Need- We need to learn more.
  • Appear- It appears to be done.
  • Seem- It seems to be broken.
  • Claim- He claims to enter the room.
  • Fail- Abir fails to pass the exam.
  • Frustrate- Do not frustrate to do any tough work.
  • Omit- We omit to attend the party.
  • Pretend- He pretends to cheat us.
  • Learn- I have leant to read.
  • Dare- She dares to go there.
  • Plan- They plan to cheat him.
  • Promise- She promised to marry me.
  • Tend- He tends to smoke.

 

We know that after the preposition ‘to’, there will be always V1 but there are some preposition-oriented verbs that take a Gerund (V+ ing) after them. অর্থাৎ আমরা জানি যে Preposition ‘to’ এর পর সর্বদা V1 o অর্থাৎ verb এর base form হয়, তবে কিছু To যুক্ত Verb আছে যাদের পরে সর্বদা V + ing/ Gerund ব্যবহার করতে হয়

 

 They are as follows…
  • Look forward to- I look forward to getting a good job.
  • With a view to-, I went to Dhaka with a view to getting a job.
  • Be habituated to- He is habituated to drinking.
  • Be accustomed to- He is accustomed to surviving.
  • Be used to- He is used to starving.
  • Addicted to- I am addicted to smoking.
  • Object to- Abir objects to going there.
  • Objection to- I have an objection to doing this.
  • Admit to – I admitted to doing this.
  • Confess to- The boy confessed to committing the crime.
  • Contribute to- We contribute to building our nation.
  • Prefer to- I prefer reading to teaching.
  • Depose to- He was deposed to ruling anymore.
