WH QUESTIONS | How to make WH Questions –

প্রিয় বন্ধুরা, আজকে আমরা ইংরেজি গ্রামারের একটি মজার বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করবো। আমাদের আজকের আলোচনার  বিষয় HOW TO MAKE WH QUESTIONS & USE OF WH WORDS. অর্থাৎ আজকে আমরা শিখবো WH words ব্যবহার করে কিভাবে বিভিন্ন রকম WH QUESTIONS করতে হয়। তবে তার আগে আমাদের দুটি জিনিস শিখে নিতে হবে- ∎Auxiliary Verb ∎To Do Verb

☑ am, is, are, was, were, have, has, had, will , would, shall, should, can, could, may, might, must এদেরকে বলা হয় Auxiliary Verb এবং do/did/does এদের কে বলা হয় to do verb.
এগুলো নিয়ে পরবর্তিতে ধাপে ধাপে আলোচনা করা হবে। এখন তাহলে WH QUESTIONS তৈরির ক্ষেত্রে WH words এর বিভিন্ন ব্যবহার শিখে নেওয়া যাক-

 

WHO & WHAT

কোন বাক্যের subject কে প্রশ্ন করতে who/what ব্যবহার করতে হয়। Subject যদি ব্যক্তি হয় তবে who ব্যবহার করতে হবে এবং Subject যদি ব্যক্তি বাদে অন্য কিছু হয় তবে what ব্যবহার করে WH Questions তৈরি করতে হবে। মজার বিষয় হচ্ছে, Subject কে উঠিয়ে দিয়ে সেখানে who/what ব্যবহার করলেই WH Question হয়ে যায়, এক্ষেত্রে বাক্যে আর কোন পরিবর্তন করতে হয় না। তবে বাক্যের শেষে অবশ্যই প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন দিতে ভুল যেন না হয়!

ツ Example-

∎∎ Abir is playing football. এখানে কে football খেলে জানতে আমরা WH Word “WHO” ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন টি করবো কারণ এখানে Abir হচ্ছে subject এবং Abir একজন ব্যক্তি তাই আমরা Abir কে who দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Who is playing football?

∎∎ Football is an international game. এখানে কি একটি international game জানতে আমরা WH Word “WHAT” ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন টি করবো কারণ এখানে football হচ্ছে subject এবং football কোন ব্যক্তি না হওয়ায় আমরা তাকে What দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- What is an international game?

 

WHAT & WHOM

কোন বাক্যের object কে প্রশ্ন করতে whom/what ব্যবহার করতে হয়। object যদি ব্যক্তি হয় তবে whom ব্যবহার করতে হবে এবং object যদি ব্যক্তি বাদে অন্য কিছু হয় তবে what ব্যবহার করে WH question করতে হবে। Whom মানে হচ্ছে কাকে বা কাদেরকে এবং What মানে হচ্ছে কি, কোনটি বা কোনগুলি।

☑ এ ধরণের প্রশ্নের ক্ষেত্রে WH Word এর পরে প্রথমেই Auxiliary Verb বসবে এবং Auxiliary Verb এর পরে subject এবং বাক্যের বাকি অংশ বসবে। যেমনঃ Abir is playing football. এখানে football হচ্ছে object এবং football কোন ব্যক্তি না হওয়ায় আমরা তাকে What দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- What is Abir playing?  আমরা অনেক সময় ভুল করে subject কে আগে দিয়ে ফেলি, যেমন- What Abir is playing? কিন্ত না ! এটা সঠিক নয়, অবশ্যই প্রথমে Auxiliary Verb হবে এবং পরে Subject হবে, অন্যথায় WH Question সঠিক হবে না !

ツ More Example-

∎∎ Zara will meet a doctor. এখানে Zara কার সাথে meet করবে জানতে আমরা WH word “WHOM” ব্যবহার করবো কারণ এখানে doctor হচ্ছে object এবং doctor একজন ব্যক্তি হওয়ায় আমরা তাকে whom দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করবো। এখানে Auxiliary verb হিসেবে will আছে তাই আমরা প্রথমে Whom এবং তার পরে will + subject ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন তৈরি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Whom will Zara meet?

∎∎ Zara has taken medicines. এখানে Zara কি গ্রহণ করেছে বা কি নিয়েছে জানতে আমারা WH word “WHAT” ব্যবহার করবো কারণ এখানে medicines হচ্ছে object এবং object কোন ব্যক্তি না হওয়ায় আমরা তাকে what দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করবো। আর এখানে Auxiliary Verb হিসেবে has আছে। আমরা What এর পরে has ব্যবাহার করে প্রশ্ন টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হব- What has Zara taken?

⍣⍣ Note: বাক্যে যদি কোন প্রকার Auxiliary Verb না থাকে অর্থাৎ যদি am, is , are, shall, will ইত্যাদি এগুলো না থাকে তবে Verb অনুসারে do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হবে-
Verb যদি past tense এর হয় তবে did ব্যবহার হবে, Verb যদি present tense এ হয় তবে do ব্যবহার হবে এবং Verb এর শেষে যদি s/es থাকে তবে does ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হবে-

 

ツ Example-

∎∎ Abir plays football. এখানে football কে প্রশ্ন করতে আমরা what ব্যবহার করবো। অর্থাৎ আমরা প্রশ্ন করবো- আবির কি খেলে? কিন্তু এখানে যেহেতু কোন auxiliary verb নেই তাই আমাদেরকে do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করতে হবে। যেহেতু Verb এর সাথে s/es আছে তাই আমরা does ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে প্রশ্ন টি হবে- What does Abir play?

∎∎ Abir played football. এখানেও আমরা আবির কি খেলেছিলো জানতে object ‘football’  কে what দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করবো। কিন্তু ঠিক আগের মতই এখানেও কোন Auxiliary Verb না থাকায় আমরা WH Question তৈরি করার ক্ষেত্রে do/did/does ব্যবহার করবো। যেগেতু এখানে Play Verb টি Past form এ “played” আছে তাই আমরা did ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্নটি তৈরি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- What did Abir Play?

∎∎ We play football. এখানে আমরা কি খেলি জানতে object “football” কে what দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করবো এবং ঠিক আগের মতই এখানেও কোন Auxiliary Verb নেই। সুতরাং আমরা do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করবো। যেহেতু Play Verb টি Present Form এ আছে এবং Verb এর সাথে কোন s/es ও নেই সুতরাং আমরা do ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- What do we love?

 

WHOSE

কার অথবা কাদের অর্থে WH Word “whose” ব্যবহার করতে হয়। বাক্য Auxiliary Verb থাকলে সেই Verb ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করতে হবে আর বাক্যে Auxiliary Verb না থাকলে পূর্বের মত do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হবে।

ツ Example-

∎∎ Abir’s father is a businessman. এখানে কার বাবা business man প্রশ্ন করতে WH Word “WHOSE” ব্যবহার করতে হবে। যেহেতু এখানে Auxiliary Verb হিসেবে is আছে তাই আমরা is ব্যবহার করেই WH Question টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Whose father is a business man?

∎∎ His team plays well. এখানে কার team plays well জানতে WH Word “WHOSE” ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন করতে হবে। যেহেতু বাক্যে কোন Auxiliary Verb নেই এবং play verb এর সাথে s/es (plays) আছে তাই আমরা does ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Whose team does play well?

 

WHICH

কি, কোনটি অথবা কোনগুলি অর্থে প্রশ্ন করতে WHICH ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হয়। which ব্যবহার করে অব্যক্তি/ বস্তুকে প্রশ্ন করা হয়। কোন ব্যক্তি কে প্রশ্ন করতে কখনই Which ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। Auxiliary verb এর দিকে খেয়াল রেখে প্রশ্ন তৈরি করতে হবে, আর Auxiliary Verb না থাকলে পূর্বের মত do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হবে।

ツ Example-

∎∎ Abir loves story books. এখানে Abir কি বই love করে প্রশ্ন করতে “WHICH” WH Word টি ব্যবহার করতে হবে। অন্যদিকে যেহেতু verb এর সাথে s/es আছে তাই does ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি তৈরি করতে হবে। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Which book does Abir love?

∎∎ We will buy this book. এখানে আমরা কোন book কিনবো অর্থে প্রশ্ন করতে WH Word “WHICH” ব্যবহার করতে হবে। এখানে Auxiliary Verb হিসেবে will আছে তাই আমরা will ব্যবহার করেই WH Question টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Which book will we buy ?

 

WHEN

When মানে হচ্ছে কখন। কোন একটি কাজের সময় জানতে WH Word “WHEN” ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হয়। Auxiliary verb এর দিকে খেয়াল রেখে প্রশ্ন তৈরি করতে হবে, আর Auxiliary Verb না থাকলে পূর্বের মত do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হবে।

ツ Example-

∎∎ The Match will start at 5:00 pm. এখানে কখন খেলা শুরু হবে প্রশ্ন করতে WH Word “WHEN” ব্যবহার করতে হবে। এখানে Auxiliary Verb হিসেবে will আছে তাই When এর পরে will ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করবো। সে ক্ষেত্রে WH question টি হবে- When will the match start?

∎∎ The class ended in the afternoon. এখানে ক্লাস কখন শেষ হয়েছে জানতে WH word “When” ব্যবহার করতে হবে। অন্যদিকে যেহেতু এই বাক্যে কোন Auxiliary Verb নেই তাই do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করতে হবে। যেহেতু end Verb টি past form এ ended আকারে আছে তাই আমরা এখানে did ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH question টি হবে- When did the class end?

 

WHERE

Where মানে হচ্ছে কোথায়। কোন একটি কাজের স্থান (place) জানতে “WHERE” ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হয়। Auxiliary verb এর দিকে খেয়াল রেখে প্রশ্ন তৈরি করতে হবে, আর Auxiliary Verb না থাকলে পূর্বের মত do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হবে।

ツ Example-

∎∎ Nazrul Islam was born in Bangladesh. এখানে নজরুল ইসলাম কোথায় জন্ম গ্রহণ করেছিলেন জানতে WH word “Where” ব্যবহার করতে হবে। যেহেতু Auxiliary Verb হিসেবে was আছে তাই where এর পরে was ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করতে হবে। এ ক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Where was Nazrul Islam born?

∎∎ Abir reads in a primary school. এখানে আবির কোথায় পড়ে জানতে WH Word “WHEN” ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন করতে হবে। যেহেতু verb এর শেষে s/es [reads] আছে তাই does ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করতে হবে। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Where does Abir read in ?

 

HOW

How মানে হচ্ছে কিভাবে অথবা কি উপায়ে। কোন একটি কাজ কিভাবে হয়েছে, কেমন করে হয়েছে জানতে “HOW” ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হয়। Auxiliary verb এর দিকে খেয়াল রেখে প্রশ্ন তৈরি করতে হবে, আর Auxiliary Verb না থাকলে পূর্বের মত do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হবে।

ツ Example-

∎∎ Abir speaks English smartly. এখানে আবির কিভাবে ইংরেজিতে কথা বলে জানতে WH Word “HOW” ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন করতে হবে। যেহেতু Verb এর পরে s/es [speaks] আছে তাই does ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করতে হবে। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- How does Abir speak English?

∎∎ Abir is driving carefully. এখানে আবির কিভাবে গাড়ি চালাচ্ছে প্রশ্ন করতে WH Word “HOW” ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন করতে হবে। যেহেতু এখানে Auxiliary Verb হিসেবে is আছে তাই আমরা How এর পরে is ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- How is Abir driving?

⍣⍣Attention: How দিয়ে আরো অনেক ভাবে প্রশ্ন হতে পারে। Practice করার সময় আমরা সেগুলো নিয়ে আলাদা আলাদা ভাবে আলোচনা করবো ইনশা আল্লাহ!

 

WHY

Why মানে হচ্ছে কেন বা কারণ। কোন একটি কাজ কি কারণে হয়েছে, কেন হয়েছে জানতে “WHY” ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হয়। Auxiliary verb এর দিকে খেয়াল রেখে প্রশ্ন তৈরি করতে হবে, আর Auxiliary Verb না থাকলে পূর্বের মত do/did/does ব্যবহার করে WH Question তৈরি করতে হবে।

ツ Example-

∎∎ Abir has come to my home to meet me. এখানে আবির কেন আমার বাসায় এসেছে জানতে WH word “Why” ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন করতে হবে। যেহেতু এখানে Auxiliary Verb হিসেবে has আছে তাই আমরা why এর পরে has ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি তৈরি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Why has Abir come to my home?

∎∎ We study for a better life. এখানে আমারা কেন study করি জানতে WH Word “WHY” ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন করতে হবে। যেহেতু বাক্যে কোন Auxiliary Verb নেই, সুতরাং do/did/does ব্যবহার করে প্রশ্ন টি করতে হবে। যেহেতু Study verb টি present form আছে এবং এর শেষে কোন s/es নেই তাই আমরা do ব্যবহার করে WH Question টি করবো। এক্ষেত্রে WH Question টি হবে- Why do we study ?
