OUR NATIONAL FLAG

Bangladesh is an independent country. Like the other independent countries, we have a national flag of our own. Our national flag is the symbol of our independence. It bears the memory of our freedom fighters. We have achieved our national flag after nine months of the sanguinary war in 1971. It is our pride and power. It is rectangular in size and looks very beautiful. The size of our national flag must be in the ratio of 10:6. We can make different sizes of our national flag according to this ratio. It can be made of cloth of cotton, silk and linen.  There is a red circle in the rectangular flag and green around the red circle. The red circle means the rising sun and the green means the evergreen existence of our youth and it means the land of green crops. The red colour also means the sacrifice of our martyrs and makes us more courageous. Many freedom fighters have dedicated their lives to gift us an independent country. Without their sacrifice, we can not get a national flag of our own. Our national flag plays a vital rule in our national life. It separates us from the other nations. So it is our cordial duty to show honour to our national flag. Bangladesh has also a national flag as she is an independent and sovereign country. Bangladesh got this nation flag on December 16, 1971, after a nine-month-long valiant struggle of our heroic freedom fighters with the occupied Pakistan army. The flag is rectangular in size having a proportion of 10: 6. There are two colours in our national flag – bottle green and red. The deep red round colour part symbolizes the rising sun of independence. It also stands for the supreme sacrifices of our heroic freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the cause of their motherland. Besides, it is hoisted half-mast on national and international mourning day. Whenever we see our national flag flying, our mind is filled with joy and hearts swell in pride. We feel proud of our national flag.
